Sun flower seeds are an easy addition to your pet’s treats. But, even more, they are a tremendous nutritional addition.

Sunflower seeds, contain 24% protein and they have a nice balance of essential amino acids.

And, Seeds from sunflowers are also a good source of fiber and vitamins and minerals, including calcium and iron.

While these seeds contain a fairly large amount of fat, it is in the form of unsaturated fat and is instrumental in preventing heart disease.

In addition, they also contain selenium, vitamin E and protease inhibitors, all which help to guard against cancer.

So what is the best way to use these healthy seeds in your homemade dog treats?

The simplest and most uncomplicated way to use them is simply to add them to recipes, much as you would raisins or nuts in a people recipe. If you add ¼ to ½ cup of seeds to a favorite recipe, you won’t have to make any adjustments to the ingredients.

Try adding the seeds to dog cookie recipes like my carob chip cookie recipe, just as you would add nuts or chocolate chips to your own cookie recipes.
