Dog birthday cake decorating does not have to be difficult.
With so many cute shaped cake pans and cake toppers on the market, decorating dog cakes just got easier!
Keeping that in mind, I’ve put together some dog cake decorating ideas, to make your dog cakes or puppy cakes look great—without a lot of fuss!

Dog Cake Decorating How-to
Dog cake decorating ideas can be very simple or they can be quite complicated and difficult.
But all dog cake decorating begins with a simple dog treat icing or frosting.
A dog treat frosting that hardens, gives you more decorating options, while a soft dog treat icing is easier for an older dog to eat.

Using an icing spatula makes the job easy.
Simply spread the dog icing on the cake. This will be your base layer. The decorating comes next, and it can be quite simple, or as complex as you’d like it to be…
When you have your dog icing on the cake, you can embellish the cake in many ways.
One way is to simply use cake toppers that you purchase, like these DOG Cake Toppers or these Puppy Dog Cupcake Picks. .

These simple pupcakes have dog treat icing
and a single cake topper on each.
Even though these cupcakes were simple to make and decorate, they look cute and professional.
This would be a quick and easy solution for a dog birthday party.

Put the dog frosting on your cake or cupcakes. Then apply the swirls or lines to your icing. Use a contrasting color to make it stand out.
You use a plastic bag filled with icing (with the corner removed) to make the lines. Twist the bag to remove the air and then squeeze the bag to extract the icing. It’s a little tricky to get an even flow of frosting, and I prefer to use the Wilton icing decorating set with the decorative heads.

Once again, for this dog birthday cake decorating idea, you will need to have a base of dog treat icing.
The rest is easy.
Simply sprinkle something on top.
You could use colored sprinkles, bacon bits, chopped peanuts or even sugarless unsweetened carob chips

It was her first dog cake, and I think it looks great.
She iced the cake and then applied green sprinkles that would be perfect for St Patrick’s Day.
Vary the sprinkles and you have an easy dog cake for another holiday!
You can use icing swirls or decorative lines on both dog cakes and dog cookies.
Other ways of dog birthday cake decorating include colored frosting and using cute little inedible cake toppers. And don’t forget to use dog birthday candles.
Use your imagination and you’ll be able to come up with more fun dog cake decorating ideas! Enjoy…
