Home Remedy for Dog Nausea

This ginger dog biscuit recipe could help settle your dog’s stomach, if she suffers from dog nausea when you travel.

Does your dog’s motion sickness make travel difficult for both you and your dog? A car sick dog can make your trip seem endless.

Try these homemade healthy dog treats to calm nausea and prevent dog car sickness. Ginger dog biscuits can be soothing when your dog is anxious or upset.

Having lived in Pennsylvania most of my life, I observed the traditions of many Amish families and I became friendly with some of my Amish neighbors.

The Amish have many traditions. In the fall in Pennsylvania, you can smell the wonderful aroma of gingerbread permeating from Amish kitchens.

Baking gingerbread is a sign of harvest and signals that it’s time to get ready for winter.

The Amish farm their land using natural methods that go back hundreds of years. They don’t use artificial fertilizers or chemicals. They preserve the food that they grow—by canning it. And they cook everything from scratch.

Amish people also use herbs and supplements to stay healthy. One proven remedy that they use is ginger for nausea. It helps to soothe an upset stomach and aid digestion.

Ginger for Motion Sickness

Another group that knows about using ginger as a natural remedy is boaters.

Boaters traditionally also use ginger to prevent seasickness. A simple ginger tea made from a piece of fresh ginger, or a single capsule of ginger powder, can calm the most queasy tummy! I know it’s true, because I’ve tried it!

Ginger is used in many countries, world-wide, to calm nausea, whether from motion sickness, anxiety or from an illness. And ginger can be used safely with a dog, to calm an upset stomach.

Biscuits for your Nauseous Dog

If your dog has a tendency to get car sick, you can prevent his nausea by giving him a ginger dog biscuit or two before you leave.

In addition, take some ginger dog biscuits along with you when you travel, and make sure you give your dog a gingerbread cookie when he needs it!

The Gingerbread People cookie cutters that I use for my dog treat recipes are 2” or 3 ½” high. I like to use both gingerbread boys and gingerbread girls.

Here’s the ginger dog biscuit recipe:

Ginger Dog Biscuit Ingredients

  • 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dry baking yeast
  • 2 tablespoons unsulphured blackstrap molasses
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil or olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup wheat bran or oat bran
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Ginger dog cookies can also be decorated with dog treat icing.

Directions

  1. Put all the ingredients in your bread maker.
  2. Use the dough cycle
  3. When the dough is ready to use, take it out of the bread maker.
  4. Divide it into 3 portions.
  5. Roll the dough into sheets that are ¼” thick.
  6. Cut out the gingerbread boy or gingerbread girl cookies.
  7. Let the cookies rise for 45 minutes.
  8. Bake the cookies in a 275 degree F oven for 1 hour.
  9. Turn off the oven and let the cookies finish drying overnight.
  10. Store the cookies in an airtight container and in a cool dry place.

While these gingerbread boys (or girls) help with dog nausea, your dog will enjoy them any time. Keep some on hand so that you can use them for everyday treats.
