Carrot Dog Muffins

Carrot Dog Muffins are great soft dog treats for your pet’s senior dog diet, to use as puppy cakes or for a special occasion treat for a dog of any age.

Made with all natural grains and carrots, these puppy dog cakes are tasty, healthy and soft–great for your old dog and his sensitive teeth!

As your dog gets older, soft treats like these muffins can provide nutrition to your dog, even if she is not eating much of her regular dog food.

The carrot muffins are quick and easy to make, and, with a little cream cheese frosting or dog treat icing, they are the perfect birthday party treat!

We have a friend with a dog named Scout. Scout loves carrots. He tasted them one day when our friend Lisa was making a salad and dropped a carrot. This accidental tasting, turned into a lifetime love of carrots for Scout.

Scout is getting to be an old dog now, and his teeth are not what they used to be. Lisa gives him soft dog treats now, like these muffins.

This recipe was created for Scout—and we included his beloved carrots.

Pans that Work for Carrot Dog Muffins

If you have a large breed dog, you can use a regular muffin pan or cupcake pan (12 muffins).

If you have a small breed dog, the best size is the smaller muffin size. The Mini Muffin Pan for little muffins makes 24 muffins at a time.

Or, if you want to get a little fancier, why not try a cute shaped cake pan for dogs

These little muffins are essentially the same as dog cupcakes, and they can be used in dog cake pans that were designed to make mini cakes.

This will allow you to use cute dog bone shapes or one of the other many adorable shapes available.

Ingredients for Carrot Dog Muffins

• 1 c milk
• 1/4 c canola or vegetable oil
• 2 T honey
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
• 1 cup oatmeal
• 1 cup wheat bran
• 1 tsp. non-aluminum baking powder
• 1 tsp. cinnamon
• 2 cups carrots
• 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
• Dog treat icing (optional)

Directions

1. In a small bowl, using a whisk, beat together the egg, honey, oil and milk.
2. Combine and mix all the other (dry) ingredients in a large bowl.
3. Pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until everything is wet.
4. Put the mixture into the greased muffin tins—filling to ¾ full. Or use cute paper wraps to line the pans.
5. Bake at 375 degrees F for 15-20 minutes for the small muffins and 25-30 minutes for the regular size muffins.
6. The muffins will be done when you insert a toothpick in the middle of one, and it comes out clean—nothing sticking to it.
7. Turn the oven off and leave the muffins in the oven until they are completely cool.

Store your Carrot Dog Muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. Because they are soft treats, with more moisture than hard dog biscuits, they will get moldy if you keep them at room temperature.
